Thanks for promoting the Free Kibble site! I have signed up for a daily reminder so I don't forget to go back to give more.

My younger cat was rescued from the local shelter. She was estimated at 1 1/2 years old when we got her and was scheduled for euthanasia because she had issues with her foster family's other animals and nobody was willing to take a chance on her. My husband saw her when he was there on business and noticed she matched our other cat (he is a somewhat unusual solid color). He got to know her and brought the rest of the family in to meet her. Once we met her, we knew she was our cat. This was almost 2 years ago and she's been part of the family ever since.

Unfortunately, there is a serious overpopulation of stray and abandoned cats in our town. Our shelter is struggling to keep up with them. I strongly encourage anyone who's looking for a pet to visit their local shelter and consider an adult rescue.

This is a great idea! It's not even just economically hard times that cause people to abandon their animals, either. I used to work for a veterinarian and we had animals dropped off and tied up outside overnight all the time. People buy animals without thinking, like they are toys or accessories, without realizing that they are going to be responsible for a LIFE. Then when the kids get tired of the dog because it's not a cute puppy anymore and it digs and pees all over, and jumps and mouths because nobody has any time to spend to train it properly, they just dump it like it's yesterday's newspaper, without a thought or a care in the world to who's going to take care of it or how. Sadly, so many wonderful animals are put down because shelters don't have the resources to care for them all. This website is a great thing, shelters can use all the help they can get. If anyone has the time, every shelter I know always welcomes volunteers to come down and spend some time with the animals to get them more socialized and exercised. Think about it!

I'm glad that people do care about animals.
I'm a sucker for a stray, or injured animal.

The hamster I have now is actually the $200 hammi, because when I bought her the pet shop had neglected her and she had a big festering infection on her leg... The vets office was wonderful, and she made it. That little Angel is quite the trooper.
:3

I just wish I could afford to do that all the time. D:

I have been doing this for some time now and can I recommend another site?
http://www.experienceproject.com/savecats

They are stricter, but will potentially donate more than 10 pieces of kibble a day. Apparently they are also a social service, but you just keep saying not at this time when their ad pops up. It's still fun to see what you know in the way of trivia, as well as helping animals. There is an option to do this for dogs. If I'm not mistaken, though, you have to choose one or the other.

I have to say, this site is the perfect complement to Hello Kitty Hell. I often go to HKH for fabulous geekiness of it, which is a balm to my soul, but this site is a different kind of fun. I fed dogs and cats today, and I will spread the word to my cat-adoring friends. And the dog-adoring ones. So this is also a soul balm, but some sweet people get fed out of the deal (other than my soul).

That reminds me of the free rice vocabulary site, though limiting it to one question per day reduces the funness factor a bit (and remembering to visit daily is harder). Still very cute.

I saw a story the other day about all of the pets being abandoned due to the economy and it's just awful! I got my dog from a shelter and he's the best little guy ever. I'm glad this site is try to help those pets in need, though I wish you could answer more than one question a day! I'd spend all my free time at work on that site if I could!
